GUIDANCE FOR AWARDING BURSARIES

TO ATTEND EARLY DANCE SUMMER HOLIDAY COURSES  

 

 

NB       The EDC committee awards the bursaries

 The selected Summer School Committee allocates people to classes

 

Closing date for Applications:  Not later than the 15th May.

Notification within 3 weeks of the closing date.

 

AIMS OF BURSARY AWARD

 

 

1.     To encourage the acquisition of advanced historical dance skills by those likely to promote the enjoyment, performance and study of Early Dance in the UK, whether they apply their knowledge to musical, historical, theatrical or research activities.

2.     To help support the ongoing excellent provision of historical dance summer schools in the UK.

3.     To offer financial assistance for those students with talent and commitment who are unable to afford UK summer school fees

4.   To publish annually, in the Early Dance Circular, reports from Bursary students (minimum 200 words) on their summer school holiday work as a means to publicising what opportunities are available for in-depth study of early dance in the UK.

 

BURSARY AWARDS: up to £250 each. Bursaries cannot be deferred from one year to the next, but applicants may reapply.

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

 

Candidates should complete the application form on the EDC website and submit it, along with a reference, to the Bursary Administrator,

Any of the summer holiday courses run by the following UK summer schools may be attended: 

Chalemie Summer School Course in Baroque Dance (Oxford, August, annually);

Dolmetsch Historical Dance Society Summer School (Chichester, July/August, annually);

Consort de Danse Baroque Summer School (Cardiff, August, annually).

Nonsuch History and Dance Summer School (Harrogate, August, annually)

SELECTION PROCESS

 

This is confidential to the committee.

Awards and refusals will be made by letter/email.

We reserve the right not to award bursaries, if we think it appropriate, or to increase their number.

The opinion of the relevant Directors of the UK Summer Schools involved will be sought.

The Bursary Administrator receives applications, circulates them to the committee for discussion and informs applicants of the decisions made.
