Call for papers: 25th Annual Oxford Dance Symposium

Call for Papers: Dance, Costume and Scenography

Deadline: 22 November 2022

The 25th Annual Oxford Dance Symposium will take place on 18th & 19th April 2023 organised by Michael Burden and Jennifer Thorp.

Keynote Speaker: Jane Pritchard (Victoria & Albert Museum)

The Oxford Dance Symposia focus on the technique, practice and philosophy of dance during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, and we always welcome papers on any aspect of dance during this period. Each year, however, we have a light touch theme to which participants are invited to respond if they wish. The theme for 2023 will be ‘Dance, Costume and Scenography’ a theme to be interpreted as broadly as possible, but within the date range of the symposium. Topics might include costumes for theatrical performances, dressing for communal dancing, the physiology of dance and costume and clothes for ball room dancing.

Those wishing to submit abstracts (200 words) and a biography (150 words) should do so to Jacqui.julier@new.ox.ac.uk by 22nd November 2022.
