This presentation offers a general introduction to the Waltz using English sources of the late 18th and early 19th Centuries. The form of the early waltz is explored in overview, as are the associated controversies and its eventual acceptance by the English public.
As part of the presentation I’ll be referring to some early (pre-Wilsonian) Waltz instructions including several previously unknown descriptions of how to dance the waltz.
